As the definition between days has become somewhat blurred under lockdown, the tradition of Sunday Lunch can be an important marker of the week. What's on the menu: Best idea from chef Sebby's regularly changing menu is the Half red curry spring chicken with wild ginger, minced tiger prawns and sweet basil, roasted in banana leaves which you can just reheat in the oven or on the BBQ. Or if you're after a fish option, how about the Whole sharing coconut chilli jam seabass with Thai basil, wrapped in banana leaves?

In a nutshell: Classic British restaurant included in many Sunday Lunch guides

What's on the menu: They deliver the quintessential roast with all the trimmings between midday and 6pm every Sunday. Select from a choice of Herefordshire rib eye, roast Welsh leg of lamb, crispy Old Spot pork belly, whole roast chicken as well as a vegan and vegetarian option. Desserts, cheese and wines are also available.

In a nutshell: Award-winning British pub food

What's on the menu: There’s confit shoulder of lamb, rib of Aberdeen Angus and slow-roasted pork belly but our pick would be the whole Norfolk black chicken for two. Vegetarians have a choice of a vegetable Wellington or nut roast and all are served with classic sides. For picky partners, non-roast options include fish and chips.

In a nutshell: Traditional pub with a huge selection of beers, lively cabanas and gutsy food.

What's on the menu: Locals can continue to enjoy The Stag’s popular Sunday Lunch menu of Black Angus ribeye, braised leg of lamb, Gloucester Old Spot pork belly or whole Norfolk chicken for two to share, all served with goose fat roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, Yorkshire Pudding and gravy. The no-meat option of pearl barley, hazelnut and root vegetable roast is served with vegan trimmings.

In a nutshell: Turkish family-run Stokey favourite serving charcoal grills

What's on the menu: From 2pm on Sundays the grill platters for two or four would make a hearty, and very meaty, sharing lunch. Accompany those with a selection of hot and cold meze, (definitely order the Testi grilled onions with herbs and a “special” red sauce) and finish with homemade pistachio and walnut baklava.

In a nutshell: Gorgeous wine bar, shop and cafe

What's on the menu: Three free-range meat options (Norfolk Gold cornfed chicken, Scottish rib-eye, Redhill Farm leg of pork) and three vegan options (Aubergine encased nut roast, roast butternut squash with pistachio stuffing, Wellington nut roast) are all served with four vegetable sides, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy, also available in child portions. There’s sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble for dessert as well as a concise organic wine list.

The Camberwell ArmsThe Camberwell Arms

In a nutshell: Algarvian chicken restaurant 

What's on the menu:  Casa do Frango's signature dish isn't specifically a Sunday roast - but it's well worth considering for Sunday lunch. Order the half chicken brushed with their delicious sauce (Piri-Piri, oregano and lemon and garlic or plain) grilled over hot charcoals and triple glazed. A choice of six sides can be added (don’t miss the African Rice with crispy chicken skin, chorizo, plantain) and five sharing starters (we loved the smokey grilled chorizo served with earthy black olive mayo and guindilla peppers on our visit). There’s red, white, rose and green wines as well as fizz and beer from Portugal and homemade pastel de natas for pud.

In a nutshell: A menu of bold flavours of meat and fish cooked over charcoal

What's on the menu: The menu revolves around meat, charcoal and fire. Welsh lamb saddle gets the sous-vide treatment the day before and is then charcoal grilled to order. There's also Cotswold chicken very slowly turned by hand rotisserie-style above the charcoal, 40-day aged Belted Galloway rump crisped right on the grill and also roasted celeriac for vegetarians. Sides are beef dripping roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and vegetables. Add an aperitif or two from the long list of cocktails.

Where: Delivers to South and West London

In a nutshell: Delivered “restaurant food” from chef Philip Britten. 

What's on the menu: The menu here is particularly good for groups - the whole free-range French Black Leg chicken serves four, boneless shoulder of Welsh lamb serves three to four, côte de boeuf sourced from the Scottish Highlands serves two to three and the baked seabass with white wine, shallot and fennel serves two, there is also a half chicken for one. All are served with accompanying vegetables. Orders can also include a selection of starters, additional sides and desserts.

In a nutshell: A healthier take on comfort food

What's on the menu: Choose from seasonal nut roast, roast chicken breast or 21 day aged rump all accompanied by roast potatoes, braised red cabbage, balsamic roasted onion, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding and red wine gravy. There is a selection of starters, desserts and wine and a "Sexy Sunday for 2” deal offers three courses and a bottle of wine for £65.

In a nutshell: Modern British dining room, café and wine bar in Whitechapel Gallery. Head chef Joe Fox was previously at Petersham Nurseries. 

What's on the menu: This is a cooking class and roast in one as Head Chef Joe Fox has put together three recipe boxes with ingredients and instructions. The "perfect pork belly” involves overnight brining, make-your-own apple sauce, hazelnut and cider stuffing and seasonal veg and gravy. The native breed beef rump box includes cauliflower cheese, heritage carrots, purple sprouting broccoli and horseradish cream. The free-range roast chicken is accompanied by sage and onion stuffing and bread sauce as well as heritage carrots and seasonal greens stuffing. All three come with duck fat roast potatoes and gravy. If you want Yorkies with your beef you must order separately or follow instructions using your own ingredients. Starters and desserts can be added as well as drinks.

In a nutshell: Neighbourhood bar and deli

What's on the menu: Every week you'll get the choice beween chef Joe’s famous roast (this week it's pork) with roast potatoes, carrots and cauliflower cheese or there's a vegetarian option of nut roast available between 1pm and 4pm.

Where: 50 Cheyne Walk, Chelsea, London SW3 5LR

In a nutshell: Elegant London pub with a restaurant run by ex-Jason Atherton chef Ian Smith.

What's on the menu: As part of their Cook At Home selection of weekly dishes the neighbourhood pub and dining room offers a single choice Sunday menu of starter, main and dessert. At the time of writing, lunch started with green bean and artichoke salad with truffle vinaigrette, popped quinoa, almonds and caramelised Seville orange. Mains were a roast chicken or vegan roast cauliflower with glazed vegetables, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and gravy (two-person minimum), and for dessert there's an apple tarte tatin with honey crème fraîche. As well as a brilliant wine list there are bottles of infused spirits delivered with mixers and garnishes and a selection of pre-made bottled cocktails.

In a nutshell: Home-style cooking in Chelsea

What's on the menu: Snazzy Sunday lunches from Colette could start with Golovkine vodka and Iranian beluga caviar followed by lobster bisque, then Black Leg chicken, beef Wellington or roast fillet of beef with handmade apple tart for dessert and a French and English cheeseboard, all accompanied by fine wines, finally freshly ground coffee with artisan chocolates. Then, it's probably time for a snooze.

In a nutshell: Grilling in Chelsea

What's on the menu: The delivery service from this Chelsea restaurant part of the 11 Cadogan Gardens hotel (same group as Cliveden House and Chewton Glen) has a regularly changing Sunday lunch menu. It launched with a free-range roast British white chicken which comes with all the trimmings and veg - including a pork & sage stuffing and a rich thyme gravy.

In a nutshell: Michelin-starred restaurant from Ollie Dabbous.

What's on the menu: A changing weekend set menu offers two or three courses including sides for two or more to share with no choice or variations. Not that you would want much variation from the current menu of "Green asparagus in a camomile & rapeseed dressing, pea shoots & hazelnuts" followed by "Roast dry-aged duck lacquered in honey, lavender & spices" with duck fat potatoes followed by Black Forest Gateau. There's also a suggested wine pairing from the Hedonism cellars.

Where: The Orange (Belgravia) and Coach Makers Arms (Marylebone)

In a nutshell: Belgravia and Marylebone gastropubs.

What's on the menu: The Cubitt House pubs have a new meal and grocery service - either order it for delivery or collect it from The Orange in Belgravia or The Coach Makers Arms in Marylebone. There are five Sunday Roast boxes on offer ranging from half a Castlemead roast chicken for two to a Wing Rib roast beef for four. They all come with roasties, veg and more - you just need to bung it in the oven.
