Sumi in Notting Hill has been one of London's best sushi restaurants since it opened just over five years ago. And now a follow-up restaurant is incoming, this time to Marylebone.
The original Sumi was opened by Endo Kazutoshi as part of the Creative Restaurant Group, which also includes Kioku by Endo and IGNI in Mayfair. They refer to Sumi as "the little sister to sushi master Endo Kazutoshi’s eponymous Michelin-starred White City restaurant, Endo at the Rotunda", and it's even named after his mother.
That's pretty much all that's been revealed about the restaurant so far. If the menu follows the same style as the original, we can expect a tight selection of sashimi, nigiri and temaki (yes, there will be Japanese handrolls!) and a short selection of dishes from the Robata grill.
As for the location, the new restaurant is taking over Cote on Devonshire Street, which is much bigger than the original Sumi, so we'll have to see if they change anything up with the larger space. We'll have more news closer to the opening.
