Mediterranean restaurant Jul's started life in Ibiza in 2018 and the same team also opened Humain restaurant in Athens. Now the team are getting ready to bring Jul's restaurant to London, opening in St James.
It's opening as part of one of the new developments in the area which, like other recent opening Aki, is inside an ex-bank. The restaurant comes from Chef Christos Fotos, who teamed up with Jem Akyuz, and his son Ilhan to launch this and the original Jul's. In London, the chef is bringing a menu that they're describing as "Greek-inspired yet unmistakably Mediterranean".
Like the original Jul's, local sourcing and a focus on sustainability is a big thing, and as such they'll be working with farms around and close to London when they're putting together the menu. As for that menu, the exact details are yet to come, but we can expect dishes like giouvetsi, flatbread with slow-cooked lamb and grilled fish over open fire. We'll update with more details closer to the opening date.
Looking at the designs so far, the restaurant should look pretty impressive, particularly the wine wall which takes up the entire back wall of the restaurant. And talking of drink, there will also be a late-night bar downstairs called No. 11. That will be run by Bar Directors Vasilis Sgouromallis and Dimitris Karapanos with distillation and infusions making a big part of the cocktail list, which will also reflect what's offered in the main menu.
London loves Greek and Mediterranean restaurants like now, so it'll be interesting to see what this brings to the table.
