In surprising news, chef Gizzi Erskine is returning to Mare St Market (both Hackney and Kings Cross venues) as Chef Creative Director.
You may recall we reported on Gizzi launching her first restaurant at Mare St Market back in 2018, before leaving in August that year.
Since then, she has held various pop-up and residencies around London , written another cookbook (Restore in 2020), and launched a Substack, adding to what has been a very versatile 20-year career.
If you weren’t aware, there are not one but two Mare Street Markets now - the original and the second in King's Cross. So this is a good excuse to venture forth and see how Gizzi intends to revitalise both spaces. She initially intends to introduce French-Americana brasseries to both venues, as well as take over the delicatessen (brace yourselves for bold salads and deep-filled focaccia sandwiches). Down the track, there’ll be a brand-new health concept, which sounds both intriguing and mysterious.
Gizzi will also oversee a new series of pop-ups, as well as guest residencies featuring her friends in the industry (both local and from further afield). We’re looking forward to the additional creativity and collaborations at the popular venues (including the recently launched Island from Brad Carter and Tom Brown at the Kings Cross outlet.
