He launched his own mail-order pasta during the various lockdowns and now Phil Howard is going one step further with his own pasta restaurant. The chef, who has a Michelin star for his Elystan Street restaurant, will be opening Notto in Piccadilly (taking over an old Paperchase site).
He's joined in the endeavour by Executive chef Louis Korovilas who has been quite busy on London's pasta scene himself, originally opening Bancone and most recently launching Noci in Islington.
With pasta dishes between £10-£13, the menu includes:
- Rosemary, rock salt, tomato and garlic focaccia
- Gnocchetti with smashed sausage, white wine, fennel and chilli
- Pappardelle with slow-cooked shin of beef, oxtail and red wine
- Bucatini with a ragout of autumn vegetables, mushrooms and chestnuts
- Squid ink spaghetti with a sauce of sardines, garlic, sweet peppers and tomato
All that and vitello tonnato too.
There have been quite a few fresh pasta restaurants in London in recent years, but they all continue to be very popular and this could well prove very handy for a touristy part of town. Will there be more of them to come? It does seem likely.
