Sharp eyed East Londoners who might have spotted activity at the little kiosk in the garden of St John at Hackney recently should know they now have an interesting new Mexican cafe on their doorstep.
The Quarter Kitchen in Lower Clapton is from Max Fishman who's behind nearby shop The Quarter Store, which provided a real community hub for local food businesses during the pandemic. At the kiosk he's brought in an interesting chef too; Rodrigo Cervantes used to be part of Super 8 Restaurants, so he's worked as a chef at the likes of Koya, Smoking Goat and Kiln.
The mainly breakfast and lunch menu will focus on gorditas, which are thick, filled tacos, commonly eaten across Mexico. They'll also be serving up chilaquiles (tortilla chips soaked in salsa, eggs, cheese, sour cream, onion and coriander), egg and bacon tacos, and breakfast burritos.
Coffee is a big deal at the kiosk. It's supplied by Origin and they're planning a programme of guest roasters on fitler, with previous roasters including the likes of Skylark, Crankhouse and Process.
If you're in the neighbourhood a trip to this churchyard sounds like a must.
