What: Harrods Brasserie
In a nutshell: Harrods have a huge new family-friendly all-day restaurant
Summing it all up: Harrods have kicked their men's shoe department upstairs, creating a large space for their newest offering, an all day restaurant that'll be great for the kids too.
The low-down
You've got to hand it to Harrods - they don't do things by halves. Their latest food offering is a huge new all-day dining restaurant.
The new Harrods Brasserie will be a family restaurant on the lower ground floor. It's taken over the space previously occupied by the men's shoe department. So where once the well-heeled denizens of Knightsbridge pondered whether their next brogues would be Church's or Tom Ford, they'll now be able to order up flat-iron steaks and peruse what Harrods are describing as "a unique children’s menu".
The brasserie, which will seat 125, will be one of the department store's biggest restaurants. Open all day from breakfast through to the evening, you can start the day with Turkish eggs with strained Greek yoghurt and harissa butter or a cinnamon bun with warm caramel sauce. For lunch, there's endive salad with dolcelatte and toasted hazelnuts or a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with curry mayo in a brioche bun.
If you're setting in for a larger meal dishes include:
- Chargrilled rump minute steak, café de Paris butter, crispy onions, chives
- Seasonal ravioli, toasted pine nuts, sage and lemon brown butter, wild rocket
- Aubergine parmigiana with cold-pressed olive oil
- Sauvignon Blanc croissant bread and butter pudding
And on Sundays, they'll have a Sunday Roast offering including a 32-day-dry-aged Heritage beef striploin served with roasties, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
The restaurant, taking up more than 2000sq ft of the Lower Ground Floor all sounds very luxe - banquettes dressed in deep teal leather upholstery, marble cornerstones and a lot of brass. Mind you it helps that the store has one of the biggest chef brigades in Europe with over 160 chefs on staff.
