What: Decimo

In a nutshell: The Standard's flagship restaurant.

Summing it all up: Decimo is the restaurant that's taking over the impressive space at the top of The Standard hotel in King's Cross. It's run by Peter Sanchez-Iglesias who has two Michelin-starred restaurants in Bristol and it'll have one hell of a view.

The low-down

We've already paid a visit to both Isla and Double Standard on the ground floor of the Standard hotel in King's Cross, but that's not all that's coming to the new hotel. When they took over the building that now houses The Standard, they spent a lot of time adding a huge-windowed section on top - and that will be their main signature restaurant, Decimo.

It's run by Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, who has two restaurants in Bristol - Casamia and Paco Tapas which are both Michelin starred. And yes, it'll have one hell of a view through those windows, which completely encircle the large restaurant. It'll also have its own special lift - with an entrance direct from Euston Road.

As for the food, we're promised Spanish and Mexican dishes including para picar, seafood over ice, aguachile (Mexican ceviche), tacos, salads, and meat and seafood cooked over open fire. What we know of the menu so far includes jamon croquetas, table-side prepared Caesar salad, vegan mushroom paella, suckling pig shoulder, XL langoustines and rib of beef. Oh, and there will also be a caviar-topped tortilla (£40 with 25g of caviar).

More of the menu includes:

  • Manchego Quesadilla (£4)
  • Octopus a la Gallega style (£25)
  • Mussels Salpicón (£12)
  • Mangalitza Pork Chop (£28)
  • Quail, Mole Glaze (£18)

Drinks will also have an influence from Spain and Latin America, where the wine list will be drawn from. There's an "agave program featuring some rare agaves from Oaxaca" that's been put together by Niki Nakazawa (who has previously worked with Noma Mexico).

Here's what Peter Sanchez-Iglesias has to say about the place:

Decimo is all about bringing Spanish and Mexican food together. The combination of my Spanish roots combined with my research and fascination with Mexico, where I was massively inspired by the completely new, yet familiar flavours. This sparked the concept of bringing Mexican influence and technique into our favourite cuisine- Spanish, and showcasing fantastic British produce to execute the menu alongside some of the most renowned artisan drinks producers in Spain and Mexico
