If the impending arrival of Autumn (if it isn't here already) has you depressed, then we have some good news to counter that. September may mean the end of the hols and back to work, but it also means that the Salt Yard Group Croqueta Challenge is just around the corner.
We've judged it for the past few years and it's always a cracking event - bringing together some of London's best restaurants in an intensely competitive challenge to serve up the best croquetas in town.
This year, they're spreading the event out, starting with four neighbourhood heats being held at each of the Salt Yard Group's restaurants. Diners eating at the restaurant that night will blind test five croquetas. The best two croquetas from each heat will end up battling it out in the grand final and the winner will have their croqueta added to the Salt Yard Group’s menus for two weeks.
The heats are as follows (each Salt Yard restaurant will also be competing in their own heat).
- Carnaby - Dehesa (3 Sept) - line-up includes Kanishka and Guinea Grill
- Soho - Ember Yard (10 Sept) - line-up includes Scully's and Cleveland Arms
- Covent Garden - Opera Tavern (17 Sept) line-up is Coach - Clerkenwell, Rochelle Canteen, Breddos and Galvin Restaurants
- Fitzrovia - Salt Yard (24 Sept) line-up includes bubbledogs and Rambla
The Grand Final will be held at Ember Yard on Tuesday 1 October. Tickets go on sale to subscribers to the Salt Yard group mailing list on Friday 16 August at 11am. After that you can find the link on their website. Tickets for the final will be released on Tuesday 17 September. Tickets are £25 per heat and £35 for the grand final and include five croquetas and a gin and tonic.
See you there!
