  Episode one of the BBC's new business series Million Pound Menu - think Dragons' Den meets First Dates - saw two 20-somethings picking up a whopping £750k-£1m from backer Atul Kochhar for their English restaurant venture.   The Hotel Cafe Royal has created a brand new first-floor restaurant - and has recruited French chef Laurent Tourondel (who's big in the States) to look after it.

  Following on from their original Shoreditch opening, this is the latest from The Jones Family, this time a Kitchen more than a Project, with a big emphasis on grilled meat.

• A plant-based restaurant comes to London Fields with The Field

  The Field put plants and veg first in London Fields. Se up by the man behind The Porridge Cafe, expect a very veg menu but with the option to pimp up with meat or fish, if you want. 

• FOLD bring their NY style pizzas to London Fields' Monohaus building

  This new London Fields pizzeria is the second UK branch of New York–style pizza chain FOLD. They bill their pizzas as large, thin crust, hand tossed, wide slices that are made for folding and stuffing in your mouth.

• Tom Oldroyd is opening The Duke of Richmond pub and dining room in Hackney

  Tom Oldroyd's follow-up project to his neighbourhood restaurant in Islington will be a Hackney pub serving up French dishes created with British seasonal produce and he has serious plans for a Sunday roast too.
