New Paper & Cup opening in Mile End

paperandcupGet a guilt-free burst of caffeine as Paper & Cup - the coffee and book shop which opened its first branch in Shoreditch last year - has just opened its second venue in Mile End.

The warm glow you'll feel (in addition to the flat white or espresso you're having) is down to the fact that the cafe project deftly combines great coffee and good food with doing good too. Former addicts who've completed an addiction recovery programme are trained up as baristas by the cafe.

The Mile End site is bigger than their Shoreditch origins so there'll be a full menu of hot dishes such as lemon roasted chicken with herbs, roasted vegetables and harissa potato at £4.95  alongside gourmet sandwiches. ‘Babycinos’ are free - which should entice local families and the breads come from Flour Station, which started in the kitchens of Jamie Oliver’s restaurant Fifteen. Head over to Mile End this Saturday and get half price full breakfasts for the opening weekend.

Project manager Brent Clark explains: "Our trainees say the best thing about it is that they don’t feel like they are in recovery – they feel like normal people in a normal job. And that’s when we know that they, and us, are on the path to success."

They had us at guilt-free...

Paper & Cup Mile End is open Monday to Friday (8am-5pm) and from 10 am to 4 pm at the weekend. St Paul’s Way Centre, 83 St Paul’s Way, Bow Common, off Burdett Road, London E3 4AJ For more information go to www.paperandcup.co.uk
