Farley Macallan brings wine, food and soon coffee to Hackney

It's all happening over on Hackney's Morning Lane. First came the new wine-focused restaurant Legs, then the new Nike store opened and now there's Farley Macallan. It's a new wine bar and restaurant run by Luke Ramsden whose CV includes time spent at the Arts Club and Home House and it's setting out to reinvent the local.

The 100 seat spot on the corner of Morning Lane and Ponsford Street (where FIX used to be) features a wine list ranging from easy drinking and some biodynamic wines with most wines by the glass for £5 and the bottle for £24 with a few pricier special occasion wines by the bottle only, like Chablis 'La collegiale' Laroche for £36. "For our wine we wanted to offer something special," explained Luke. "We have a specially curated list of biodynamic wines chosen by our sommelier Mark Sheppard who has come to us from Majestic Wine."

There's also beers from Five Points Brewery on Mare Street and a short cocktail list.

On the food front, they already feature snacks like truffle popcorn and local cured meats and cheeses. But from 18 June they'll have food courtesy of the E5 Smokehouse. Hot Dinners got a sneak preview of the menu this weekend which features dishes like:

  • Grilled broccoli with smoked tomato hemp and London feta
  • Cauliflower fritters with curried yoghurt and cucumber
  • Raw beef with pickled St George and nori
  • Strawberries with marshmallow, whipped Jersey cream and lemon verbena

If all that wasn't exciting enough, they're also diversifying into coffee. The Workers Cafe is a new coffee-shop space opening on 20 June at Farley Macallan during the day, from 9am - 5pm, before the wine bar opens. It'll be somewhere to work with all-you-can drink quality filter coffee - all you need to do is pay a £5 daily member fee. Oh, and there's also a basement arts space too.

Farlay Macallan is now open at 177-179 Morning Lane, London E9 6LH. Opening hours for The Workers Cafe at Farley Macallan which opens 20 June will be Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm. The wine bar is open Wednesday & Thursday 6pm - 12am, Friday 6pm - 1am, Saturday 12pm - 1am and Sunday 12pm - 10pm. Keep up with their news on Twitter @MeetFarley
