When it comes to upcoming London openings, "James Bond opens a pub" definitely wasn't on our bingo card. But, according to The Times, that's just what we're getting.
The very impressive trio of Nick Jones (St Clement), Charlie Carroll (The Devonshire) and Daniel Craig (er... James Bond) have apparently joined together to take over Clerkenwell pub The Horseshoe. At least that explains why Craig has recently been spotted around Café Clement so much.
Charlie Carroll will be overseeing the food, apparently, but being the only one of the trio with pub experience, we're betting he'll have a fair bit of input into the overall pub (which it sounds like Jones will mainly be taking care of). They're also joined by Justin O’Shea, who worked with Craig on his new beer Bad Belze. So you can expect that to appear on the drinks list here. Craig tells The Times that "we’re going to keep it as a boozer", which will certainly keep some of its current clientele happy. Apparently the pub is popular for darts in its current guise, so we'll have to see if they hang onto the dartboard too.
Given the absolute heaving success that The Horses has just become (not to mention the great duo of Bouchon Racine/Three Compasses), it looks like settling on Clerkenwell was a very good idea indeed.
In its current state, The Horseshoe closes today (8 October). So if you want to see just what the trio have got their hands on, this will be your last chance before late 2027. We'll be back with more news on the opening closer to its revival. Will it even be called The Horseshoe when it returns? We'll have to wait and see.
