Islington has its fair share of bakeries, from Pophams to Sourdough Sophia, but there seems to be no end of demand for them. And, speaking as an Islington resident, classic French bakeries aren't particularly well represented. So we're welcoming the news that Authentique are opening in Camden Passage.
Taking over the space that used to be The Passage Pantry, the latest Authentique (you'll also find them in Tufnell Park and Finsbury Park) will be open as a cafe and bakery. So if you've been looking for a truly great French baguette in Islington, this should be your new go-to place. On top of that, you can expect excellent croissants, pain au chocolat made with Valrhona chocolate, quiche, chocolate and walnut brownies and more. They'll be serving up sandwiches, so you'll be able to get a proper jambon-buerre here, and you'll be able to linger over a coffee (by Conscious Coffee) too.
And for anyone missing the previous deli, they will deli items that include jam and honey, wine, cheese and charcuterie to take away. We can see this place being very popular with the Islington crowd, particularly on weekends.
