Around this time last year, Noodle Inn opened in Soho and was an instant sensation. It immediately became the restaurant with some of the longest queues in Soho and has remained hugely popular to this day. Well, now they're about to open a second restaurant.
The new Noodle Inn will be in Spitalfields, opening in one of the many brand new developments happening in and around the City right now. This will be a much bigger restaurant than the first, so they are promising smaller queues (but we'll have to see about that). So far, all we know is that it will have a big open kitchen, so you can see all the noodle-pulling in action, and they also say the restaurant will be 100% halal.
There will be new dishes (we're yet to learn about those) but otherwise you can expect the same focus on dishes from the North West Chinese province of Gansu. Noodle dishes from the original include their signature chilli oil spill noodles, special wide noodles (including oil spill with braised beef), classic noodle soups (braised chicken or classic beef shank), knife-cut noodles and more. Their dumplings are also well worth a look.
Braving the queue last year, Grace Dent, while not being a fan of the wait, said "The braised chicken, on the other hand, was a dream. I think of it often, sitting there paddling in an inch of spicy oil. But for God’s sake, don’t wear white and don’t take a first date here."
So, if you must try this on the opening day, make sure you get down there early.
