Field Notes is Native’s Ivan Tisdall-Downes new London Fields wine bar and restaurant

If sustainable dining is close to your heart, then keep your eye on East London, as we bring you big news from Ivan Tisdall-Downes, former executive chef and cofounder of Native Restaurant: he’s opening a new venture in London Fields. Called Field Notes (we see what you did there), the restaurant and wine bar will feature dishes inspired by his global travels as well as reimagined versions of his past creations.

This is good news for fans of Native Restaurant, who were led a merry dance around its various iterations over the last decade in London before it relocated to the former Pensons site on the Netherwood Estate in 2024, where it became a farm-to-table restaurant with rooms, winning a Green Michelin Star in February 2025. Ivan resigned as executive chef in March 2025, and we have been awaiting his next move ever since.

Field Notes will set up camp in the Monohaus development, bringing a concise yet ever-evolving menu that speaks to Ivan’s hyperfocus on sustainability, and influences that span everything from his experiences at Devon’s River Cottage to Blue Hill at Stone Barns, New York. Sample dishes include:

  • Brown crab tikka masala
  • Pickled cockle flatbreads
  • Fermented potato waffle
  • Morel Har Gow

There’ll also be a ‘Living Drinks Program’, championing sustainable principles at the cocktail/wine bar. This translates to botanical cocktails, wild sodas and a well-curated list of natural, low-intervention wines. It sounds like it’ll slot into the neighbourhood just nicely.
