To corrupt a phrase, necessity is the mother of reinvention, and that's a lesson that London restaurants know well. From Orasay turned Dove in Notting Hill to the wholesale reworking of the Pachamama group, London restaurateurs that keep their offering fresh and interesting are always going to do well.
The latest to follow in their footsteps is the group who've found recent success with their Marta pizzeria. They've decided to close their other restaurant, The Hungry Turtle, which is at the other end of Fulham Road from Marta, and turn that into a pizza spot too.
"We felt it was time for a significant refresh. We have had eight wonderful years here at Fulham Broadway to hone and perfect our Romana craft," they said. "We took all this knowledge to our second restaurant, Marta...and from this, we have elevated our pizza even further. We now want to share this with you at Martina, taking the very best of both and bringing you an all new Romana experience."
It sounds as though Martina might be a mixture of a pizzeria and Roman trattoria. They're promising "a brand new menu and a wonderful communal dining area, and maybe even a disco ball!"
