It's recently been home Darby's Next Door, with support from Rubens Ruebens, but now Robin Gill is turning the space into an all-day cafe and aperitivo bar, called Bar Brasso.
Right next to Darby's (as the previous name gives away), Gill has been looking to both San Sebastian and Venice for inspiration. Things start off with the cafe, where they'll have pastries and sandwiches and then move onto lunchtime dishes that include beef shin lasagne or rosemary and garlic roast chicken.
In the evening, things change into a bar space, mainly based around the long marble counter, with small plates that sage and anchovy fritters, devilled egg “piemontese” crostini and mussels with
nduja soffrito. There's also the Bourdain grilled toastie (based on Bourdain's favourite sandwich), with Franceschini Mortadella ‘Opera’ and fontina.
Drinks-wise, things kick off with £5 Negronis, so if you happen to work in nearby Penguin or the US Embassy, that's worth knowing about. The wine list, meanwhile, is mainly Northern Italian but they will have a txakoli tap (placed up high for the proper pour).
If you're a fan of Darby's, this is definitely one to watch.
