When the swanky art’otel chain opened its second London outpost in Hoxton in 2024, we told you about its ground-floor dining experience Brush East London Grand Café. Well, the hotel has just announced its latest restaurant, and you’d better look to the skies because Solaya is coming to the 25th floor.
Solaya is the first London venture for chef Kenny Atkinson and if that name rings some bells, perhaps you’re recalling his stint on BBC’s Great British Menu or you’ve previously had the good fortune to dine at one of his Newcastle establishments: either House of Tides or Solstice. A bit of a legend up north, Kenny is apparently the first chef to hold two separate Michelin stars for both restaurants in the city of Newcastle.
So, what should we expect from Solaya? Views, views, views, obviously. Capitalising on the 360- degree layout, there’ll be several balconies for private dining and evnets all year-round, including a feature balcony that seats 12. And the restaurant will boast floor-to-ceiling windows, of course. The main restaurant will seat 70, as well as a lounge and bar that holds 110 people.
Aiming to cater for anything from corporate bookings to special occasions, Solaya (yes, the name is inspired by the sun) will focus on French-Mediterranean fare. And while Kenny is overseeing the menu and concept, he’ll be joined by Head Chef Nicola Losquadro (formerly at Sucre, Mere Restaurant by Monica Galetti and The Oystermen Kitchen & Seafood Bar).
We don’t have detailed menu information as yet, though we can tell you the wine list will go big on French and Mediterranean regions (and not just the main players; think Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Greece) and there’ll also be handcrafted cocktails to sip at the bar or lounge while you’re mesmerised by the London panorama.
