Back in 2023, the founder of Patty & Bun, Joe Grossmann, got into the pub business, opening The Watermans Arms in Barnes. It turned out to be an excellent pub, blessed with a fantastic view of the Thames and with a great menu by chef Sam Andrews.
Clearly that's gone well as Grossmann is now about to launch his second pub. This time it's right in the middle of Soho as he's taking over The Shaston Arms, a relatively new pub having only opened in 1999. That pub shut its doors only last month after they couldn't agree terms on a new lease. At the time, the previous owner said, "We understand that the landlord wishes to pursue a restaurant offer on Ganton Street." That turns out to be partly true as while there will be much more a focus on food, it will remain a pub and will "seamlessly blend drinking and dining environments".
Sam, who previously worked in the area at Ducksoup, will be back in Soho looking after the kitchen here.
It's early days on this announcement, so we'll have more news (including what's on the menu) closer to the opening date.
