His main home may be Elystan Street, but Phil Howard's other business looks like it's doing pretty well. Fresh pasta bar Notto is clearly doing great business on Piccadilly and in Covent Garden, because a third is on the way to the City.
If you're as yet unfamiliar with the restaurant, our original Test Drive gives a pretty good rundown. Essentially, it sees Howard using the skills and experience cooking pasta in Michelin-starred restaurants to create a much more affordable menu. It's also a menu that changes regularly with the seasons, with current dishes including:
- Pappardelle with slow-cooked short rib of aged beef, root vegetables and red wine
- Short-cut bucatini with wild garlic leaf pesto and buttered field mushrooms
- Ravioli in brodo - small pork ravioli in a fully flavoured chicken broth
- Gnocchetti with brown shrimps, English asparagus and mascarpone
There are starters and salads too, but the pasta dishes are the main event, all around the £15 mark each. The new City space is tentatively named "Notto to Go" but whether that means it's a slightly new concept is yet to be revealed.
As for the location, it looks like it's opening in the new 1 Broadgate development but we'll have more details on that soon.
