Rastro is Leather Lane's hip new sandwich bar

A few years ago we brought you the news about an interesting new Mediterranean sandwich bar Rastro, which had just opened up in East London. Now the same team, which included two Allegra alum moving closer to the centre of town by expanding to Leather Lane. Their new cafe, halfway between Farringdon and Clerkenwell, sees them bring their Euro sandwich offering to midtown workers.

If you're in the area and haven't made it out to the original, let us enlighten you on the Rastro menu. The key thing is that all the sarnies are made using Spanish pan de cristal bread.

Always-on sandwiches include:

  • Bikini – Prosciutto cotto, emmental, cornichons & honey mustard
  • Serranito – Jamón serrano, egg & salmorejo (Andalusian tomato sauce)
  • Clásico – Pistachio mortadella, stracciatella & fresh basil pesto
  • Levante (Veg) – Muhammara, stracciatella, kalamata olives, rocket & pomegranate molasses

And they're introducing a monthly special which will start with a Tartufo, made with Jamón serrano, brie & truffle.

Of course, you can't have a modern hip cafe without a strong coffee roster and the Rastro team are featuring a monthly rotating guest special with recent collaborations including Dak, Piso Rojo, and Skylark Coffee.

There's no room to eat in, but they are promising to put a bench outside if you fancy having your lunchtime sarnie in the sun.
