It's been promised for a few weeks and now Lardo's new wine bar is nearly upon us. Bastardo is opening right next door to the popular East London pizzeria, and as their window proclaims, it's focusing on low-intervention wine and "mighty fine snacks".
Starting with those snacks, they're clearly sharing the same DNA as the main Lardo. So, there will be pizza fritti, sharing "trough plates" of pasta and other snacks like stracciatella with anchovies on toast. The wine list, meanwhile, will feature a changing list of 70 wines, with 20 of those available by the glass and a European focus throughout. Low intervention is the key, with skin contact and natural wines on offer too. Fizzes include pet nats, a Bacchus fizz from Suffolk, Prosecco, crémant, cavas and lambrusco.
Alongside those, expect low and no-alcohol options, as well as craft beers. Lardo has a strong reputation, and Hackney does love a good wine bar, so this new opening has plenty of promise.
