Eagle-eyed Stokey residents will have spotted the imminent arrival of a new fish and chip shop on their doorsteps. Cod & Brew has taken over the corner site on Stoke Newington Church Street, where Truffle Burger was before, and is already on soft launch.
Owners Inan and Kas have three more chippers under their belt outside London, but having grown up in Stokey this will be their first close to home. The menu offers the standard fish and chip shop experience with cod, haddock and rock eel all in the fryer. There will be vegan alternatives, pies, battered sausages and a range of sides that include mushy peas, curry sauce and pickled eggs.
As for the 'brew' in the title, the pair told Hot Dinners they've "partnered with a local brewery to create speciality beers on tap, brewed for Cod & Brew."
It's going to be mainly a takeaway, with a hatch for delivery drivers, but there will be few counter stools if you want to eat in. They say they're "blending classic British charm with quirky disco vibes".
