2/7/24 - Updated with the opening date
Ever since the Galvin Brothers announced that they were closing their rooftop restaurant at the London Hilton on Park Lane after 18 successful years, there was speculation on what was going to take its place. Hot Dinners was originally the first to uncover what will be opening there, Shanghai Me.
Shanghai Me, which has restaurants in Dubai and Doha, is taking over both the restaurant and bar space. The design concept is 1930s Shanghai but the menu is more Pan-Asian so think lobster with Singapore sauce and sushi platters alongside Cantonese roast duck and Mongolian lamb chops.
They also go big on dim sum with a dim sum "library" that will be coming to London. Options in the Dubai restaurant include chicken and truffle soy rolls and vegetable crystal bao dumplings. Here in London, it sounds like a similarly high-end kind of place with confirmed signature dishes including:
- Yellowtail Carpaccio with Black Truffle
- Cantonese Style Roast Duck with Foie Gras & Caviar
- Spicy Bluefin Tuna Oshizushi
- Braised Beef Short Rib Shanghai Style
Their Doha restaurant is also a high-rise affair, so running things on the 18th floor of the Hilton should be a fairly easy move for them. The space has one of the best views of town, across Hyde Park.
The bar on the 28th floor was also a big draw under the Galvins, and replacing it will be a lounge bar called Bund, which looks equally impressive (see below). That has cocktails inspired by the Chinese zodiac and they describe the look as having an "aesthetic straight out of an Orient Express dream sequence". There will be snacks there too, including roast duck with foie gras & caviar or yellowtail carpaccio with black truffle.
