Is Richard Caring's Le Caprice coming to the Chancery Rosewood after all?

In what's very much an on-again/off-again affair, it looks like the much rumoured return of Le Caprice is back on again. The restaurant had long been rumoured to be part of the launch of the new Chancery Rosewood hotel, but just before that opened the deal was thought to have fallen through. The hotel opened, along with Carbone, but the space that was originally supposed to be Le Caprice (the corner pictured above) remained unfilled.

Now a job listing, first spotted by Restaurant website, suggests that the project is moving forward once more. The listing suggests that the new Le Caprice will be part of the hotel and not a completely separate affair like Carbone. The listing also suggests that the advertised General Manager position will "lead a flagship opening from the ground up" which suggests that we won't see the new restaurant until the summer at the very earliest.

Of course, we've already had the return of Le Caprice of sorts, because Arlington is the return of the heyday of Le Caprice in all but name. However, this new opening will be much more official.

Unlike the original, which is a compact restaurant by today's Caring standards, this will be a two-floored, all-day affair, with a large outside terrace and a private dining room for 24. When the opening was first rumoured, Caring couldn't help but throw some shade on the Jeremy King revamp, telling The Standard; “I’m sure a lot of people will want to see Le Caprice as it was, but I believe it should be moved into the 2020s. I want it to be chic, comfortable and classic. I think it’s fabulous to mix the old and the new both in style, customers and in food."

The new Le Caprice will also apparently feature the much-loved sorrel fishcakes and bang bang chicken on the menu, allowing for a direct Arlington comparison. Will it be enough to compete with Arlington which seemed to achieve the impossible by bringing the celebs back to the original Le Caprice? We'll have to wait and see.
