Here at Hot Dinners we are partial to a good cocktail and bar snack offering. So when we heard that the folk behind the 10 Cases and Parsons in Covent Garden were opening a new bar and cafe with some particularly good examples of both on the menu, we paid attention.
Baudry Greene is right beside owners Will Palmer and Ian Campbell's wine bar 10 Cases and across the road from their fish restaurant Parsons. They're describing it as an all-day European-inspired café "with a few cocktails on offer in the evening for any thirsty people in the West End that might want to drop in."
The breakfast menu roams the continent with everything from pan con tomate and tartine au buerre on offer alongside a Bavaria Breakfast Plate (speck, cooked ham, gruyère, pretzel roll and salted butter). Later in the day that expands to a range of sandwiches and salads alongside a soup and tart of the day.
The dessert side of things sounds particularly strong with options including lavender shortbreads, a blackberry and pistachio custard tart and (surely a must-have?) a brandied prune choc ice.
In the evening things switch up a bit to a menu that offers classic cocktails - martinis, a negroni, French 75, Rob Roy and Sidecar - alongside an edited wine list. To go with that there'll be treats like truffled egg, cheese bites, gildas and a 'nudja sausage roll with honey.
As for that name? As they explain: "Our sister fish restaurant, Parsons, was named in tribute to our founders Will Palmer and Ian Campbell's mothers, both of whose maiden names were, remarkably, Parsons. Baudry Greene continues the tradition and is named after Will and Ian's wives' respective maiden names."
