Restaurant St Barts sees the Fenn team come to Smithfield with a 15-course tasting menu

Restaurant St Barts sees the Fenn team come to Smithfield with a 15-course tasting menu

6/9/22 - Updated with the opening date

They've had success with Nest in Hackney and an even bigger hit with Fenn in Fulham, now the same team are heading eastwards again.

Johnnie Crowe, Luke Wasserman and Toby Neill are the people behind Restaurant St. Barts in Smithfield, but this will be a little different from their previous restaurants. That's because a 15-course tasting menu (coming in at £120) is at the heart of their offering.

In charge of that mammoth affair will be Executive chef Johnnie Crowe. The menu aims to be a hyper-seasonal British affair, and each dish will apparently feature only two ingredients (in addition to the star of the dish). So it's maybe not quite as full-on as a menu with 15 courses initially suggests. Here's a taste of what's on offer:

  • Wagyu Bellini with Exmoor Caviar
  • Native Blue Lobster with Fermented Red Peppers and British XO sauce
  • Poached Cod with Preserved Wiltshire Truffle
  • Sweetbreads with Sunflower and Jerusalem Artichoke
  • Hackney Honey and Lavender dessert

Things start in the bar with canapes and snacks before moving to the main dining room - an experiential treatment we've seen in a few top-end Michelin restaurants and this certainly sounds like it has its eye on a star. As for that dining room, we're promised floor to ceiling windows, overlooking the cloisters of St Bartholomew The Great.

But if the idea of 15 courses sounds too much - there will be a six-course lunch menu (£60) too.
