It's sad to witness any businesses closing their doors during the London lockdown. But seeing landmark hotels, which had remained open throughout both world wars, battening the hatches seemed somehow worse.
So we were thoroughly cheered to see the story in today's Standard about the reopening of Claridge's hotel to NHS workers. The folks at the Maybourne Hotel Group told Hot Dinners they'd "asked the teams across Claridge’s, The Connaught and The Berkeley to volunteer to help as Claridge’s will be hosting up to 40 key NHS workers from St Mary’s Hospital Paddington.
Those key workers will be housed in five star luxury (as is only right and proper) with the kitchens at Claridge's providing breakfast and supper for their temporary guests along with daily packed meals for over 500 NHS workers and community support teams across London via Meal Force.
We understand there are also plans afoot to roll this out to the other hotels in the group - The Connaught and The Berkeley - where necessary.
