The Opera Tavern relaunches, going back to basics

The Opera Tavern relaunches, going back to basics

22/7/19 - updated with soft launch details.

Originally opened back in 2011, The Opera Tavern was an instant hit. Back in the day when Covent Garden wasn't exactly blessed with decent places to eat, an actually-good restaurant was welcomed with open arms. Now, it's about to get a whole new look. Run by Salt Yard (who itself was recently bought by Urban Pubs and Bars) the revamp kicks off outside, with the whole building being given a bright grey touch-up - which should make it properly stick out.

And inside, there are changes too. The ground floor will return to the feel of a tapas bar, with plenty of counter seating and communal tables while upstairs will be more of a formal sit-down restaurant.

In charge of the kitchen is new chef Lukasz Kiełbasiński (previously from Michael Nadra and at Salt Yard) and his new menu includes:

  • Pluma with piquillo pepper puree
  • Chicken saltimbocca, aubergine
  • Welsh lamb belly, summer vegetables & hazelnut & Capra pesto
  • Lemon sole, basil puree and brown shrimp sauce
  • Bavette, onion and bone marrow

And if you're getting worried about missing that Iberico pork burger, don't worry - that's still on the menu (although we're not sure if the foie gras is still included).
