What: Hello Darling
In a nutshell:A new restaurant in Waterloo from 2013 Masterchef winner Natalie Coleman
Summing it all up: Coleman has teamed up with theatrical set designers Darling and Edge to create a new concept with lavish art-filled interiors and bright, fun food to match.
The low-down
Natalie Coleman, who you might remember as the winner of Masterchef 2013, has announced her latest project and it certainly sounds like the perfect antidote to anyone tired of seeing bare brick walls and naked filament light bulbs in restaurants. The restaurant will be located just behind The Old Vic theatre in Waterloo and it's a team effort between Natalie, theatrical set designers Darling and Edge and Waterloo events space The Vaults.
The result we’re told is a restaurant that will feel like being inside an art work, with hand painted furniture, frescoed ceilings, a wall covered in butterflies and several rooms designed to feel like a house including a library, bathroom and kitchen counter.
The food menu of small plates sounds bright and colourful too, with highlights including:
- Miso-glazed Tuna Carpaccio, Wasabi, Watermelon, Radish
- Smoked Haddock Scotch Egg, Tartar Sauce, Seaweed
- Harissa Quail with Pearled Cous-Cous, Sumac, Yoghurt
- Slow-Braised Lamb with Butterbean and Nettle Pesto
- Rhubarb and Frangipane Tart, Spiced Syrup, Almonds, Vanilla
On the drinks side, there’ll be a ‘botanical’ cocktail menu including Rosemary and Apricot Caipirinhas, Jasmine Collins, and Honeysuckle Gin Fizzes.
