What: Yopo
In a nutshell: Yopo takes over from Serge at The Mandrake
Summing it all up: There's a brand new restaurant opening at the Mandrake Hotel in Fitzrovia. Yopo will match European cooking with South American influences.
The low-down
It's all change at The Mandrake Hotel for the hotel restaurant. It launched as Serge et le Phoque, but a change in chef brings a complete change in approach. It's being relaunched as Yopo and will now be a mix of European cooking with South American elements. In case you're wondering, that name comes from a plant found deep in the jungles of Venezuela.
It will be an all-day restaurant, also serving coffee-to-go and there will be dishes to take away during the day - so that'll be handy if you work nearby.
Planned for the menu are:
- Potato churros
- Ceviche of seabass, blood orange, red onion & nasturtium
- Charcoal Grilled Pollock, Smoked Paprika & Herb Butter
- Charcoal grilled octopus with ajipancha& avocado
- Smoked aubergine with sea herbs & lemon
- Scallop, Anchovy, Capers, Pumpkin & Truffle
And for desserts, expect "Itakuja chocolate, yoghurt sorbet, salted caramel, fennel pollen & olive oil" and "Buckwheat Maca & hazelnut cake with smoked whiskey caramel and crème fraiche".
As for drinks, expect wine from sustainable wineries, a list of grower Champagnes, and a weekly changing selection of rare bottles from Burgundy, Bordeaux, Italy and Spain. And there will be a separate bar snacks list, as well as a late night DJ (and strings in the morning for something a little more calming).
