What: Pasticceria Marchesi
In a nutshell: Classic Milan pastry and bakery comes to London
Summing it all up: Pasticceria Marchesi is one of Italy's institutions, serving up pastries and more since 1824. Now they're coming to London with all the favourites from the Milan original intact, including their classic panettone.
The low-down
If you've been wondering what's taking over the prime space opposite The Connaught, once held by Allens, then the news is out. Launching there will be top Milan pastry shop Pasticceria Marchesi, part-owned by none other than Prada. And it's going to be their first shop outside of Italy, too.
The original definitely wins prizes for longevity - it's been around since 1824 where its panettone remains one of its prized items - and yes, that will be coming to London along with more pastries and their own chocolates. The new location will be a bakery, pastry counter and cafe. The original shop is well known for its classic look, so the classic London location on Mount Street does seem like a very good fit.
We'll have more details of the menu of the cafe as we get them.
