Whitechapel

The relatively new Hyatt Place London City East hotel (it opened mid-2021) has just opened its main restaurant. Called Zoom East, it's billed as a Sicilian Kitchen & Bar with Sicilian chef Vittorio Meli in charge of the menu (he was previously at Polpo Soho). 

On the menu will be: 

• Arancini with Carnaroli saffron rice, peas & bechamel
• Sarde

It's a sad way to mark an anniversary. But, as Cyrus and Pervin Todiwala prepared to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Café Spice Namaste, they also had to contend with the fact that they were losing the restaurant's East London home.

Café Spice Namaste has been in its current address on Whitechapel's Prescot Street since 1995 which, when you consider the churn of the London restaurant scene, is nothing

Townsend has been creating quite a name for itself both in the Whitechapel Gallery and with its delivery service. We went to try out the modern British restaurant. 

After years as a street food stall, Satay Street has found a space of their own, opening the Satay Street Cafe. They'll have all their best satay alongside an extended menu based on Bangkok Street Markets. 

Taking over the restaurant space at The Whitechapel Gallery is an ex-Garden Cafe and Petersham Nurseries duo with an exciting modern British menu planned.

An eco-conscious menu with a ‘Waste Not’ section that uses leftovers

If your day needs something seriously sugary to kickstart it, then head over to this new East London hotel where the all day cafe is serving up cereal cocktails and crazy shakes.

Whitechapel is set to get a trendy new hotel by the name of the New Road Hotel, that’s going to have a flash new restaurant built in which will have chef/entrepreneur/TV star Marco-Pierre White looking after the food.
