Tavern

374-378 Old Street, London EC1V 9LT

Tavern is inspired by the food of a classic British Tavern, although set within a more modern Shoreditch space. It comes from the same team behind Restaurant St Barts and here there's a British-influenced menu with a modern twist that ranges from wagyu tostadas to Old Spot pork chops.

Vesper

8-10 Exmouth Market, London EC1R 4QA

Vesper sees chef Jackson Boxer opening on Exmouth Market with a restaurant that's not dissimilar to his Dove in Notting Hill. It's an eclectic menu but one that veers towards comfort food. As with Dove, don't forget to order the "secret" burger if it's available.

Hoppers Shoreditch

Tea Building, 56 Shoreditch High Street, London E1 6JJ

This is the fourth Hoppers, the restaurant that's best known for it's modern take on Sri Lankan cuisine. Opening in the Tea Building in Shoreditch, this Hoppers introduced South Indian dishes to the menu for the first time and you'll also see some south Indian inspiration in the decor. The hoppers remain a must-have, but the benne dosas here are a close second.

Passione Vino Exmouth Market

58 Exmouth Market, London EC1R 4QE

This Italian-led wine bar is the second Passione Vino in London. Owner Luca Dusi took over the old tattoo parlour vacated by his artist mate Mo Coppoletta and has transformed it into a cosy spot to sit and enjoy good wine. There's no list, so you just tell staff what you like and they'll recommend something to get you out of your wine rut. The small plates are also fantastic (and generous).
