Rudie's new Shoreditch Boxpark will serve up Jamaican tapas and lunchboxes to go

What: Rudies

In a nutshell: Jamaican food in Shoreditch

Summing it all up: Two years ago, Rudie's opened up in Dalston. Now, they’re heading down the road to Shoreditch’s Boxpark where they’ll be catering for the lunch crowd with their new “grab-and-go” Boxfood, as well as reinventing some of their classic menu options as smaller, tapas version.

The low-down

Dalston Jamaican restaurant Rudies is set to go down the tapas plates route when it opens its new restaurant in Shoreditch Boxpark.

It’s been two years since they arrived on Stoke Newington Road with their plates of Jamaican-style Signature Real Jerk Chicken, Curry Goat and their Boss Burger. Now, these, along with several of their other mainstays will be transformed into mini tapas-style dishes for the new Shoreditch venue.

The new tapas-sized dishes will sit alongside a new takeaway option that they’re calling ‘Boxfood’, a little lunchbox-to-go filled with Jamaican combos like king prawns in pepper sauce with avo salsa, or plantain with Appleton rum sauce and sweet potatoes. All of which sounds like a really great way to up your lunch al desko game.

Roti Wraps will also be making a return, filled with the likes of jerk pork and callaloo and mushroom, and there’ll be a healthy amount of Jamaican punches on hand for you to wash it all down with.
