Raised by an Irish mother and Malaysian father, chef Seamus Sam began his working life at the The Bull & Last in Highgate, moving through kitchens like Restaurant Story and The Clove Club before becoming Head Chef at Muse by Tom Aikens. He now heads up the intimate, Michelin-starred counter restaurant Evelyn’s Table in Soho. Home is in Walthamstow, and Seamus has agreed to share his favourite places to go in his part of town.
The Raglan
199 Shernhall St, London E17 9HX
Favourite pub in Walthamstow. Good Guinness and proper Tayto crisps. Muireach, the landlord is great and the food is a mix of Irish and Indian, which is really interesting. They also do cool cocktails like a Barry’s tea negroni.
Wood Street Bakery
21 Wood St, London E17 3JX
Nice selection of seasonal pastries and good coffee. They also do big focaccia sandwiches for lunch and the chocolate and muscovado cookies are amazing.
Clapton Craft
Unit 1, 147-151 Wood St, London E17 3LX
There are quite a few of these dotted around London. The one on Wood street is big, the staff a friendly and it has a huge selection of beers and wine to drink in and take away. They also have regularly changing kitchen residencies.
Güneş

My go-to takeaway in the area. Go for the chicken special - Beyti, shish, doner and wings all grilled to perfection. The portions are huge, it’s enough to feed 4 people.
Orford’s Fish & Chips
59 Orford Rd, London E17 9NJ
Great fish and chips along Walthamstow village. Their lunch deal is very good value and they also have Pillar’s lager on tap, which is one of the best local breweries around the corner. Honourable mention to Bonner’s fish bar which is near Blackhorse Road, also does amazing fish and chips and is now famous for the Banksy mural.
