The head chef of 45 Jermyn St. Sam White grew up on a dairy farm in Somerset, but is now more often spotted on the green fields of Greenwich Park. He’s agreed to share his favourite Greenwich food and drink spots with us.
Wandercrust at the Pelton Arms
The Pelton Arms, 23-25 Pelton Road, London, SE10 9PQ
Amazing Neapolitan style pizza, and a great London pub in general. There’s always live music and a very decent pint of Guinness for those who are obsessed with the best Guinness pour. Best spot for a swift one whilst you wait for your wood-fired pizza. A guy called Mike Gregory is behind it all and his flavours are exceptional.
Black Eye
85 Trafalgar Road, London, SE10 9TS
This one is next to Maze Hill station and Greenwich Park. It’s great for a morning coffee or for brunch in the courtyard if the weather holds up. If you’re heading for a run or walk around Greenwich Park, this is the best pitstop for your caffeine and breakfast needs.
Goddards of Greenwich
22 King William Walk, London SE10 9HU
Traditional pie and mash doesn’t get better than at Goddards. It’s the ultimate comfort food and a family-run business serving traditional London pies with all the gravy and trimmings. Established in 1890, it holds up just as well today and it’s open every day of the week.
The Trafalgar Tavern
Park Row, London SE10 9NW
This is a fantastic riverside pub. There’s seating all along the riverside so you have a pretty spectacular view as you settle in for a hearty lunch. They’ve got a brilliant seasonally changing menu but you can’t go wrong with their burger. In true Greenwich fashion, the pub is a proper maritime pub, celebrating Britain’s great naval history.
Cakes & Layers
15 Blackwall Lane, SE10 0NG
Amazing selection of patisserie and viennoiserie here. I tend to stop in in the morning before I head to work, they do a mean laminated peanut butter and raspberry Swiss croissant which goes down with a good coffee.
