If you’re still ordering a basic iced latte as your summer drink of choice, then you really need to step things up a bit. Here are our suggestions for upping your summer drinks game in London.
The Mont Blanc at The Roasting Party
Chelsea and Moorgate
It’s the drink that Melbourne coffee addicts are mad for this summer, and now it’s made the leap to London where The Roasting Party (a company with Aussie roots) are serving it up. Order it and you’ll get a cold brew topped with vanilla aerated cream, finished with orange zest and a sprinkle of nutmeg.
The Saint Ali Mokha at Qima Coffee
Fitzrovia - 21 Warren St, London W1T 5LT
In the winter, Qima’s Saint Ali Mokha is a warming hit of Yemeni espresso with chocolate and fig. For the summer, they’ve added a swirl of peach, lavender and cardamom cream and serve it poured over ice and topped with dried figs.
Iced mochachino at Omotesando Koffee
Fitzrovia - 8 Newman St, London W1T 1FB
This Japanese coffee shop takes itself very seriously, so it’s a light relief to discover that their signature summer serve is so much fun. Chocolate syrup is drizzled down the cup sides, and the frothy iced coffee is topped with whipped cream and cocoa powder. Obviously, you’re not leaving without one of their kashi cakes too.
Maple Cloud iced matcha at Morena
Belgravia and Marylebone
Owned by two Colombian sisters, the coffee at Morena is always pretty darned good. They usually do a tight seasonal menu of specials and this summer is no different with an iced pina colada matcha on offer. But our favourite was the Maple cloud iced matcha latte with a float of salted maple cream on top.
Cereal milk iced latte at Half Million
Oxford Street - 407 Oxford Street, London W1C 2PE
This Saudi-owned coffee brand always draws a crowd, particularly in the summer months. This summer, they’ve gone all out with an iced latte made with cereal-infused milk for a malty hit, topped with a shot of strong coffee. Heaven.
Salted pistachio matcha at Blank Street
Across London
Look, we love a Blank Street coffee and this summer we’ve been ordering a crazy amount of their current limited edition drink, which is made in collaboration with Táche pistachio milk and also features Persian pistachio, matcha and Himalayan pink salt. It’s an odd salty, sweet, nutty mixture, but somehow it works.
ALL the horchata at Aguamiel
Covent Garden - 24 Wellington Street, London WC2E 7DD
Definitely one for the sweet-toothed, there are four horchata options on offer at this popular Mexican spot in Covent Garden. Choose from Aztec Grey (an Earl-Grey infusion), Solera made with Alphonso mango, Matchata, which is a blend of matcha and horchata and horchata cold brew, which adds a shot of their single-origin coffee.
