Belgravia's new Chinese hotspot Han & Han sees former Hakkasan chef Jeff Tan in charge

Han & Han sees Ex-Hakkasan chef Jeff Tan heading to belgravia with a new modern Chinese restaurant

Jeff Tan, best known for being the man who headed up Hakkasan Mayfair when it first opened in London, is getting ready to open his first solo restaurant in Belgravia.

Called Han & Han, he's taking over the space that was once the site of Michelin-starred Roussillon, launching a restaurant that he says is all about modern Chinese cooking, while also being influenced by classic techniques. Just in case you're wondering, the name refers to the two Hans in his life - his mother’s surname and his own name (his full name is Jeff Seng Han Tan). Think of it as a tribute to family and the taste of home, from his earliest culinary influences through to the present day.

It'll be a restaurant that has seasonal dishes at the heart of it and the few he's picked to shout about sound pretty great, including a 36-hour dry-aged Peking duck with homemade black truffle pancakes, along with wild seabream - Teochew-style, "1986 wild king prawns" and braised pumpkin with dry shrimp roe.

If you ever went to Rousillon, you'll know it's a pretty intimate space, fitting in only 40 diners across two floors. So that's a dining room on the ground floor and a tea room and private dining room downstairs. We'll happily be corrected on this, but we don't think there's been a restaurant here since Roussillon closed over a decade ago, so the arrival of Han & Han is good news indeed for the locals.

Given Tan's background (not only did he win a Michelin star for Hakkasan Mayfair in super quick time, but he's also been a private chef for people like François Hollande and Rishi Sunak) this should be one of the winter's more interesting openings.
