London has seen a lot of restaurant closures over the past year, and one of the higher-profile examples was The Water House project, which finished in May. That was because the lease of the restaurant was up, but it turns out that chef Gabriel Waterhouse, together with his wife Patricia Wakaimba, has already been able to line up a new space.
The pair will be opening in an old Victorian warehouse that's not too far from their old digs, and this time they're ditching the whole "project" bit as the restaurant and wine bar will be called Waterhouse.
First up is the restaurant, which will seat just 24 people, taking over what was originally a potter's studio, and which will also have an open kitchen. There is also a bar that's going to properly open in September. It sounds like they're after something of a promenade experience, as meals will apparently start in the bar (we'd expect the initial snacks to be served there). But it does look like you'll be able to pop into the bar there for wine and snacks too.
As far as the food, that's going to change regularly, as it did with the Water House Project. At least to start with, they're intending on building the menu around Northumbrian produce (which is where Waterhouse himself hails from), like Lindisfarne oysters, hand-dived scallops, creel-caught lobster, Lake District Herdwick Hogget and more.
They're also promising a sizeable garden space, which will partly be providing herbs, flowers and seasonal produce for the restaurant.
So, if you missed out on going to the original Water House Project, here's another chance for you.
