The Cinder team's next St John's Wood opening is No. Forty Nine, a combo bakery, bistro and wine bar

The team behind fire-cooking restaurant Cinder in St John's Wood (and Belsize Park) are about to double up in the area, opening a new bakery, all-day bistro and wine bar just down the road.

No. Forty Nine is going to be very different from their previous restaurants, not least because it will kick things off in the morning as a new bakery. They'll be baking breads and pastries on-site, with both classic croissants and more elaborate creations like pastrami pain suisse and burnt leek, cheddar & marmite swirls available. The cakes and sweet treats also sound very interesting, like their miso butterscotch canelés and candied orange financiers.

Come lunchtime, they'll be switching into bistro mode, with the menu taking its influences from both New York and The Med. Chef Owner Jake Finn has brought in Head Chef Ella Williams to lead the menu, who was previously at Hausu, Crispin, Cafe Murano and Cinder and who's also been running supperclubs, which bring her Jamaican heritage together with European technique and East Asian influence. On the menu here, you'll find dishes like cornbread madeleines with scotch bonnet honey butter, crab choux buns and polenta batons with whipped ricotta and sage.

There will also be bigger dishes like tagliolini with prawns & bisque and roasted aubergine with ajvar & kumquat dukkah. And the pizzas look innovative, with toppings including oxtail & guindilla. As for dessert, both the baby Guinness sundae with coffee fudge and graham cracker crumble, and the crack pie with sea salt and crème fraîche sound fantastic

In the evening, No. Forty Nine will also be a wine bar, focusing on old-world wines. It all sounds pretty great to us and should go down very well in St John's Wood, we think.
