As a much more positive counterpart to this weekend's march in London, on the coming long weekend, Londoners are being given a chance to put their money where their mouth is and show support for refugees in an altogether delicious way. Taking over the food exchange at New Covent Garden Market in Nine Elms is the Food Power Tasting Showcase 2026. That might sound more like a trade fair, but what it actually is is a chance to try dishes from a whole load of refugee-led food startups.
There will be 12 stalls serving up food, each run by someone in the TERN food business incubation programme. TERN (short for The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network is a non-profit working to help refugees start their own businesses. Tickets are £22, which gets you four taster tokens and a drink. Food options on the day include Ukrainian dumplings, Syrian parathas, Nicaraguan milk jam and Iraqi dolma.
Here are the 12 burgeoning businesses which are taking part in the event, which is being sponsored by Square.
- Varenik & Pelmen (Ukraine): Ukrainian Dumplings
- Hand Rolled Dolma Co (Iraq): Dolma
- Kefir Scones (Ukraine): Scones
- Kebabko (Palestine): Loaded Shawarma Fries
- Street Lavash (Ukraine): Classic Hot Dogs
- La Familia (Nicaragua): Milk Jam
