Above, sees the team behind Faber and The Victoria launching a greatest hits restaurant in Mile End

The team behind Faber (Hammersmith) and Somers Town Coffee House (King's Cross) have just opened a new restaurant above their Mile End "seafood gastropub" The Victoria. Completely separate from the pub downstairs, it's appropriately called Above.

Described as both a restaurant that brings together some of their favourite dishes of the past 20 years of business and also their "f**k it restaurant" it's being pitched as a compilation of hits from all their restaurants and pubs. It's a small affair too, seating only around 25 people and open just on Fridays and Saturdays.

While they've previously been best known for seafood, the menu here is a bit broader - here's a taste:

  • Crispy chicken, caviar, creme fraiche
  • Scallops, Jerusalem artichoke, bacon
  • John dory, brown shrimp beurre noisette, sea purslane
  • Braised pork cheek, Tunworth mash, confit apple
  • Above burger, Sparkenhoe cheese sauce

The menu changes a few dishes every week, so it's going to reward revisits from locals. And the cocktail list up here will also be bringing back favourites (while you can also order pints from downstairs).

So if you've been a fan of any of their previous openings, this should be one to check out.
