Earlier this year, Chef Tom Booton revealed that after six years, he was stepping down from The Grill at The Dorchester, about a year after the restaurant was renamed to The Grill by Tom Booton. Well, as the chef has now departed, the restaurant is getting back its original name, and a new chef at the top.
Now in charge of The Grill at the Dorchester is their new Culinary Director, Martyn Nail, who had a whopping 36 years at Claridge's under his belt when he left as their Executive Chef in 2022. Here at The Grill, he's joined by chef Jacob Keen-Downs, previously at Gold in Notting Hill. Together, they're promising a revamp in the way the grill works, including the introduction of "shared small plates" which might make some purists shudder. That said, there will still be dishes prepared tableside, like their tuna tartare.
Elsewhere on the menu, they're promising a Beef Wellington (no grand hotel restaurant in London should be without one) and spider crab linguine. They will also have a dessert trolley, featuring banana split, baked Alaska, sherry trifle and chocolate mousse, but sadly it seems they'll only be wheeling that out for Sunday lunches. It will, as ever, be open all day so breakfasts will feature dishes like omelette Arnold Bennett and Portland crab Benedict.
They're making a big deal about their sherry too, with a "sherry moment" every day from 6-7pm when they'll have "a ceremonious long pour served straight from the barrel" at the bar. And later in the year, they're also teaming up with Ronnis Scott's for a special supper club series with live jazz.
As for the restaurant itself, don't expect a major revamp - the classic look will remain.
