London's top hotels do like getting a named chef to run their restaurants, from Jean-Georges at The Connaught and The Emory to Tom Kerridge at Corinthia London's Kerridge's Grill. Now, the Corinthia London has announced a shake-up for its second restaurant. What's was The Northall is about to get a full overhaul by Italian chef Francesco Mazzei with the opening of Mezzogiorno.
Mazzei is probably best known in London for restaurants that include Franco's, St Alban and L'Anima. He then teamed up with D&D, opening three restaurants for them - Fiume, Radici and his main restaurant Sartoria. More recently, he's been in residency at the Corinthia Palace in Malta, a partnership which likely led to him taking on the London revamp.
The new restaurant is due to take its influences from Mazzei’s Calabrian heritage, which means plenty of use of chillies, soppressata and ‘nduja. Dishes planned for the menu here include Scottish crab with Tuscan panzanella, Umbrian white truffle tortelli, Bistecca alla Fiorentina, and Mazzei’s marsala tiramisu. There will also apparently be a white truffle menu and a separate aperitivi bar menu.
The dining room itself is also getting a bit of a revamp, adding "terracotta tones, soft stone, natural textures, and greenery". It was always an impressive-looking space, so it'll be interesting to see how they've spruced it up.
