Back in the dark days of the lockdowns, we happened about Bottle - a lovely wine shop in Highgate that seemed to stock some particularly good wines and beers. Now we hear that they've just expanded into the site next door to become a fully-fledged 'licensed cafe and store'.
That licensed cafe bit is important because while they are now a wine bar, they're also going to be open from breakfast serving up Allpress coffees and all manner of treats from vegan bakery The Female Glaze. From lunchtime onwards, the menu expands to include Cobble Lane charcuterie, artisan cheeses from Mons and more baked goods courtesy of St John Bakery.
As for that wine, there'll be wine on tap such as a Wimmer-Czerny Grüner Veltliner 2020 and Orange Pression Les Vins Pirouettes with lots more from a variety of natural and independent producers. Ciders come from The Newt in Somerset and there'll also be beers from various UK, German & Belgian craft breweries.
Even better for locals are the prospect this summer of Bottle's picnic hampers to take and enjoy in nearby Hampstead Heath & Waterlow Park.
“Community is at the heart of everything Bottle does," says co-founder Rebecca Smithson. "Since we launched the shop over lockdown, our vision has been to provide a hub for the local community in every possible respect. We want our customers to meet, share & discover together in our cafe over lunch or through our regular wine tastings & events."
