While there's already Decimo up on the tenth floor of The Standard hotel in King's Cross, they're about to get a neighbour up on the same floor with the launch of the hotel's new cocktail bar - Sweeties.
The new bar is aiming for "early 1970s Hollywood opulence" which is translating to lots of velvet sofas. mirrored tables and what they're referring to as "a six-foot antique phallic sculpture". So that's your Instagram shot right there.
Of course, the cocktails are just as important as any phallic sculpture and in charge of the menu are Jack Sotti and Todd Austin, both behind drinks agency Supernacular (and Jack will be head bartender here). A taste of the menu includes:
- Frothy Boi - lacto-rhubarb, gin, raspberry, pink pepper and fermented amazake oats
- Pick Me Up - a blend of 8 adaptogenic mushrooms, brown vodka, buttery cacao and coffee
- Crystal Healing - a blue cocktail made with spirulina, pepper dulse seaweed distillate, bergamot, and coconut ice.
- The non-alcoholic No Whey José - hot and cold strawberry, rose, red rice milk, and a salted coconut and lime leaf foam.
DJs will also be on-site and they'll have a late licence until 2am. Could be very handy for the area as King's Cross doesn't really much in the way of destination bars right now, other than The Booking Office and you'll probably want to book ahead to get into this one.
