It's been a long time, but it seems, according to Big Hospitality, that US burger chain Wendy's is definitely making a return to these shores.
They've confirmed that they're about to open a restaurant in Reading - and that several London sites are in the planning stages too. It'll be the first time they've returned since a one-day pop-up a few years ago. Before that, they shut up their UK operation almost 20 years ago (their flagship store was where the McDonald's is on Oxford Street now).
If you're unfamiliar with Wendy's, they're best known for their burger patties being square as opposed to round, and they're essentially a large fast-food chain - more McDonald's than Patty & Bun.
A look at their hamburger list suggests that we could be in for a Pretzel Bacon Pub Triple (warm beer cheese sauce, Applewood smoked bacon, smoky honey mustard, crispy fried onions, pickles, and a slice of muenster cheese in a pretzel bun) or maybe the Triple Bacon Jalapeño Cheeseburger (pickled jalapeños, Applewood smoked bacon, American cheese, crispy fried onions, cheese sauce and a smoky jalapeño sauce).
Yes, non-triple versions are available, but we think those are the ones that might be turning up on Instagram feeds.
We'll add more information on the locations as we get them.
