Mark Wahlberg brings Wahlburgers to London in Covent Garden

Updated 1/5/19 with opening date

What: Wahlburgers

In a nutshell: US celebrity burger chain

Summing it all up: Is London ready for another US burger invasion. The brothers behind Wahlburgers certainly think so as they have their sights set on Covent Garden for the first in a probable UK expansion of their burger brand.

The low-down

It was really a matter of time wasn't it? While we wait patiently for In-N-Out to do the right thing and bring their wonderful patties over to Blighty, there was always going to be more US chains chomping to get into the market.

And so, following in the footsteps of Shake Shake and Five Guys, Wahlburgers is next. The chain which is run by Paul Wahlberg along with Mark and Donnie, originated in Boston.

If you're wondering what's on the menu, well they say their burgers are made from fresh Angus beef - a blend of brisket, short rib and chuck. Most burgers contain Paul's housemade wahl sauce. There are several specials - the OFD features Swiss cheese, bacon, sauteed mushrooms and tomato jam and there's an Impossible veggie burger - and for the seriously greedy, there's a triple decker.

They also do Sloppy Joes, mac n cheese, and quite a large salad offering too alongside not one but two types of tater tots - regular and sweet potato. And we're keen to try their shakes, or housemade frappes as they call them, which Eater NY proclaimed "damn delicious".

“Covent Garden is the perfect London location for our first UK restaurant," said Mark of the move to the UK. We presume he'll cross the pond for the restaurant's official opening in September.
